It’s not really a redefinition - it’s more like the definition.

Barbie has been the reigning culture queen since the birth of Barbara Millicent Roberts in 1959. Cecile Plaisance, French artist based in Brussels, identifies Barbie as the symbol of our generation.  She has been toying with her image in the vein of Newton, Avedon and Kruger, and shooting some truly kitchsy magic.

Represented by Parisian gallery Envie d’Art and Brussels’ United Gallery, her works came through New York City last week, and will now continue their world tour.  Next stop: Concept Shop.
